Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

I am not an ‘in network provider’ for insurance companies; however, I am able to provide you with a monthly ‘superbill’ which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

How frequently do we meet and how long are sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes.  Typically, I meet with clients on a weekly basis.  Some clients have different needs and prefer more frequent appointments.

How long will I be in therapy?

This truly depends on your individual needs.  Some clients start therapy with a relatively minor concern that can be addressed on a more short-term basis.  Others have struggles that are more pervasive, and they may benefit from longer-term therapy.  After an initial session and discussion of your concerns, we will collaborate on goals and timelines.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions must be canceled at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged the full fee.

Are sessions confidential?

All sessions and communication between therapist and client are confidential.  Records and notes are also kept confidential.  If you wish for me to speak to a third party, such as a doctor or school support, you will need to sign an ‘authorization to release information’ form.

Please note that I am legally and ethically mandated to break confidentiality under the following circumstances:

  • Suspected child abuse, adult dependent abuse, or elder abuse

  • If a client threatens serious harm to another person(s)

  • The client is suicidal or a danger to self

  • I am ordered to by the court

Are you available for emergencies?

In the event of a medical emergency, or an emergency involving a threat to your safety or the safety of others, you should call 911 immediately to request emergency assistance.

I understand that non-life threatening concerns occasionally come up between sessions, for those matters I am available for phone consultation.  I am usually able to return calls within 24 hours between Monday and Friday.  However, it is my belief that most matters are best discussed during regularly scheduled sessions, and I encourage clients to be mindful of this.
